Marietta Stands to Gain New Powers to Promote Civic Re-Development

Manning authors successful bill allowing voters to approve revitalization activities
Time takes its toll on all things, including our towns and cities. That is why Rep. Judy Manning wrote legislation to allow Marietta to take advantage of a state law that promotes redevelopment of towns and cities in Georgia.

The state law that allows these revitalization efforts is called the “Redevelopment Powers Law.” This law allows cities and counties placed under its power to use special tools to promote any kind of civic redevelopment projects within their areas. One of the key tools allowed by the law will permit Marietta to exercise special tax flexibility that (along with other provisions of the law) is aimed at creating public-private partnerships that will help revitalize the city.

With the rise of interest in redevelopment existing city centers for both business and residential purposes, Manning’s bill found strong approval and quick passage in the General Assembly.

The Marietta redevelopment bill went before the voters for final approval.
